Brucellosis is a particularly dangerous infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella. The main sources of infection for people with brucellosis are sheep, goats, cattle and pigs.

This disease is transmitted from animals to humans in several ways. Brucella penetrate the human body through the mucous membranes of the digestive and respiratory tract, through damaged skin. Infection can occur when consuming raw milk from sick animals and dairy products prepared from it. Also, when caring for sick animals and through objects infected with their secretions.

Symptoms of brucellosis in humans

The latent period lasts from one week to several months, more often 1-3 weeks brucellosis is characterized by a variety of clinical symptoms, its course can be of varying severity. The disease begins gradually: malaise, insomnia, sometimes irritability, headache, pain in the muscles and joints, appetite decreases, the temperature rises to 37.1-37.3 °. More often, brucellosis begins acutely: the temperature rises to 39–40 °, chills, weakness, profuse sweating, sharp pains in the muscles, stiffness and joint pain appear. The disease lasts an average of 3 months, but can be delayed up to 1-2 years or more. Persistent residual effects after suffering brucellosis can lead to disability. In pregnant women with brucellosis, spontaneous miscarriage is possible.

The study of such pathologies is carried out by accredited laboratories that have access to pathogenicity group II. Permission to work with microorganisms of the pathogenicity group II is issued by the Central Regime Commission of the state authorized body in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population for diagnostic work, which is valid for 5 years. In private laboratories that do not have permission from the regime committee and lack of accreditation according to GOST ISO / IEC 17025 and according to ST RK ISO 15189-2015, the results are doubtful, since they did not confirm their competence.

At the moment, our laboratory is diagnosing brucellosis using classical and modern methods, which make it possible to establish a diagnosis with accuracy, thereby ensuring the reliability of each result.

About 2,000 people are examined annually by a branch of the Republican State Pedagogical Facility at the National Center of Expertise PHC in Almaty. For example, in 2018 1622 people were examined, of which 6.4% showed a positive result. Of animal products, 113 samples were examined, 27.4% of which are positive (meat and dairy products). We detected brucellosis in products of animal origin, such as meat (kebabs, raw minced meat), raw materials (wool, skin, astrakhan smushka), and also in raw dairy products - milk, cheese, feta cheese, koumiss, etc., since this product enters the food market that has not passed laboratory control for brucellosis.
